My Favorite Sugar Cookies

I have cabin fever and today was no exception. My children are at the age where they don't take naps, but still rely on me (or tech) for much of their entertainment. I'd had enough of their whining about being done with tech and their dismay that their dad and I were watching the Bears at Packers game.

After the game, the my husband took the kids to the neighborhood school, which has a huge hill and they ran up it a couple of times. While they were gone (only about 10 minutes) I had mixed up this recipe for sugar cookies.

It gave us a few minutes of doing something without tech on this cold day.

It starts out quite crumbly, but once you dig your hands in (& I am a firm believer that it's not cooking/baking if I am not digging dough out from under my fingernails for days), it molds nicely.

We rolled out several versions of gingerbread men (one lasted with most appendages in place), Christmas trees, reindeer, stars, and even a set of lips that I am pretty sure were for Valentine's Day. In all, it took about 2 hours to go from mixing the dough to pulling the last batch of cookies out of the oven.

Now that the cookies are baked, we can save the decorating for another day, which will give us more time disconnected from tech and hopefully break a little of my cabin fever.
