Barefoot Beach - a book review

Barefoot Beach by Debbie Mason was interrupted several times each reading session as I kept it in my swim bag for the second half of the summer. Every time I settled in to read and let my children exercise some independence at the local pools, my son popped his head between the book and my face and asked, "What are you reading?"

Thankfully I didn't need a lot of focus to read this book. It did its job by giving me an escape from my reality into Theia and Marco's sparky relationship. Theia is a strong independent woman working with Wicklow Developments until she falls in love with Harmony Harbor and a man she can't keep her mind off of, Marco. Theia's Navy pilot training and Marco's firefighter training collide at the beginning of the book, but neither can forget the other and often run into one another - even when on dates with other people.

I didn’t pick up this book with the hope of it giving me anything more than a nice, romantic story - and that is exactly what it delivered. I loved Theia’s determination to do the right thing, even when it meant possibly giving up the man she fell head-over-heels in love with. I loved Marco’s devotion to his family and his determination to be heroic. Overall, the book gave me an escape from the reality of the seven-year-old squeezing his head between the book and my face on hot summer days, exactly as I hoped it would.
